The ISSF State Championships were held at Cockburn Fremantle Pistol Club over the September long weekend. It was well attended with competitors from Northam, Bunbury, Warren, Port Bouvard, Busselton, Geraldton and Rhein Donau in addition to the major city clubs. Exciting finals were held for the Rapidfire , 25m Pistol and air pistol events, with numerous tiebreakers needed due to the close competition.
The host club worked very hard, coping with a number of equipment breakdowns on the Saturday that tested the resolve of organising secretary Paul Blackwell, but the shooters were hardly disturbed.
The event turned out to be the Bailey Groves show. This unassuming young Cockburn Fremantle member won four out of five of the men’s events with some fantastic scores like 580 in 10m air pistol and 544 in 50m pistol, culminating in the 5 match aggregate trophy.
